Fattened Calf

You took me into your care
making me feel like a pampered pet,
showering me with hollow compliments.
Like an innocent lamb I was being
fattened with lies to be sacrificed.
You sat me in a comfortable cauldron
whilst all along I was being cooked;
staring at the lid of fear
whilst being drained of life.
Nothing burns more than
the flames of betrayal
for you can only see the light of truth
when the heat is on.
